Greenlight Competition

The second annual Greenlight Business Model Competition has concluded.
Greenlight was held at Hannah Community Center in East Lansing. Coordinated by Spartan Innovations, part of the MSU Innovation Center, the event aims to expand entrepreneurship and small business success in Michigan. Greenlight had a record number of attendees and 25% more submissions to pitch over the previous year.

 

David Washburn

Executive Director with MSU Foundation
The MSU Foundation promotes and funds many facets related to the commercialization of intellectual property through its subsidiaries Spartan Innovations, University Corporate Research Park and MBI International as well as it’s partnerships with MSU-Business Connect, MSU Technologies and LEAP. Washburn joined MSU from the University of Tennessee Research Foundation where he served as President and CEO. Previously, Washburn led the software commercialization practice at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2001 to 2011. Washburn was an entrepreneur and involved in business development for number of high-growth software startup companies such as Wolfram Research, InstallShield Software Corporation (acquired by Macrovision), and Kuck & Associates (acquired by Intel). He holds the CLP designation from the Licensing Executives Society and received a BA and MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Paul Jaques

Director of Student and Community Engagement
As the Director of Student and Community Engagement for Spartan Innovations, Paul Jaques works with the MSU undergraduate students on their business ideas and inventions to potentially get them to market. This effort is combined with funding from two endowments, Forest Akers and Gerstacker, which are available to the undergraduate students. He also works with the State of Michigan community on all entrepreneurial efforts and events.

Lori Fischer

Executive Assistant
Lori Fischer is Spartan Innovations’ Executive Assistant. She oversees the overall efficiency of the office and helps out anywhere that is needed.

 

Lori earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, MN. She worked a multitude of positions in the graphic design field until 2001 when she began transitioning into Office Management.

Christi Lilleboe

Administrative Assistant
Christi Lilleboe is Spartan Innovations’ Administrative Support/Document Writer. Her work includes various administrative tasks, along with business-related document editing and composition.
Prior to joining Spartan Innovations, Christi worked at Anderson Economic Group in East Lansing, where she regularly assisted in research, compilation of data, and proofreading/editing for economic impact reports. Previous to that, she was an Executive Assistant to the CEO of Public Sector Consultants.

Nastas is founder of Innovative Ventures Inc (IVI), one of two venture investors financing technology in Michigan in the 1980’s from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University including Neogen (NEOG: NASDAQ), AISI Inc. (acquired by ESI, ESIO: NASDAQ, USA), and Personal Bibliographic Systems (acquired by Thompson Financial, NYSE: TRI). Suzanne Summers

Post Doc
Dr. Suzanne Summers is a post doc at Spartan Innovations, working on preliminary data collection for a new blood banking technology, as well as grant writing. After graduating from the University of New Haven, in Connecticut, with her B.S. in chemistry and her B.S. in forensic science, Suzanne attended Michigan State University and earned her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry in 2013. While at MSU, her dissertation work was focused around zinc uptake and glucose metabolism of the red blood cell and the downstream effects in multiple sclerosis. She is currently working on improvements to the storage of red blood cells for transfusion to reduce the adverse effects of this procedure.
