Greenlight Business Model Competition Winners Announced

The third annual Greenlight Business Model Competition announces winners of the March 31, 2015 competition. Competitors who impressed the panel of judges were able to win up to $50,000 in cash prizes, as well as network with angel and venture capital investors and other entrepreneurs from around the state. Airway Innovations won the grand prize of $25,000, with additional winners detailed below:

BEST OVERALL PITCH ($1,000): SS Equestrian Center
MOST CREATIVE/ORIGINAL ($1,000): Acetylcholine Regulating Device

New this year is the Best Home Appliance Innovation Award, sponsored by Michigan-based Whirlpool Corporation. With a focus on consumer needs, and finding relevant solutions for homes around the world, Whirlpool Corporation partnered with Spartan Innovations and GreenLight Michigan to create the $5,000 Home & Housewares Award, promoting purposeful innovation that helps keep homes running smoothly. This was won by AutoMowticCo, "the Eco-friendly, financially dominant future of lawn care"

GreenLight Michigan was co-created by Spartan Innovations in the MSU Innovation Center and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, and is sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Lansing Economic Area Partnership, Whirlpool Corporation, M3 Group, Brooks Kushman PC, Foster Swift PC, and other sponsors.

 “Our partnerships allow us to support great ideas and innovators from around the state,” said Paul Jaques, director of student and community engagement at Spartan Innovations. “Michigan startups have ideas and talent that can compete on a global scale. We’re proud to offer this opportunity, in addition to the funding support, to help grow small business and entrepreneurship.”

Greenlight was held at MSU’s Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing. Greenlight had a record number of attendees and more submissions to pitch over the previous years.
